Re: "Malaria without Mortality"

This is in continuation to my above subject.To-day from Mumbai,India there are news paper reports about malaria deaths & that too of Plasmodium vivax. From June 1st till date there are 60 deaths. This needs further studies & concentrated efforts. The main emphasis will have to be on awareness campaign & concentrate on the importance on "Early Detection & Prompt Treatment" to avoid deaths in such a situations.Every year in Mumbai it is known that after monsoon the transmission starts and innocent lives are lost due to no fault of theirs. How to get over this this curse ?& what all effective measures to be planned? & Who will do it?. These are the questions in the minds of people. Waiting eagerly to find an answer. Regards, Dr.Chazhoor John Babu

"Malaria without Mortality"

Happy to note about your very purposeful interest & initiative for New Ideas Generation in this deserving field .I am from Mumbai,India & I am a Medical Entomologist.I have worked in "Malaria Operational Research" for sometime & have published a book entitled "Handbook of Malaria;Disease, its Vectors and Management",in Jan 2004. Malaria deaths are in plenty in African countries. In India it is in thousands only every year. In Mumbai City after every monsoon there are around 200 to 300 deaths. So coming to the Topic of my Idea for Future of Global Fund should be "Malaria without deaths" concentrated plan devised mainly to prevent complications & death. 1.Global Fund as a whole to focus & work towards this "Goal" with lot of initiatives. 2.This will make lot of difference in solving the unabated agony created to the human kind & society. 3.There are recent reports that Plasmodium vivax is also causing deaths in India & this needs to be studied in depth. The organs affected are to be studied from mortal patients & the pathology to be studied. In Mumbai there are reports of severe complications & Medical doctors are unable to treat and/or before they start proper treatment deaths are reported. My strong feeling is that "Malaria" is not such a dreaded disease to cause so many deaths, that too year after year when technology has advanced so much.A relook into this in a very concentrated way needs to be focused. Our strong willed approach is needed & organizations like WHO,Global fund ,RBM etc needs to put in their efforts together.Strong initiative needs to be taken to stop this curse. How ,where,& what to do needs to be worked out?. 4.This is an "Uphill" task. There are many obstacles.First identify & diagonise malaria patients & study them on clinical damages& incase of deaths the organs needs to be studued individually by a pathologist with the help of a Surgeon,to workout the level of damages & work out backwards to workout corrective measures. After studying the pathological symptoms & causes, the drug regimen & timings can be worked out. Then this needs to be studied in epidemic situations. After all these studies on plenty of side effects, a solutions can be thought of ,for preventing deaths. 5.This idea need to be considered because it is the burning problem in Malaria epidemiology & we are also still waiting for a potent vaccine for the last severeral decades, without any success. 6.Name of this initiative should be:- "MALARIA Without MORTALITY". This is my wild thought & if it is of any meaningful utility then it can be considered. The "Agony of our Society due to this is Unabated & it needs to be addressed by someone & I feel "Global Fund" is the right agency to give "Solace" to the community in general. Let us unite to create a situation where in malaria deaths are minimised. Regards, Dr.Chazhoor John Babu
