    Kiapi K. Frederick from Uganda opened the discussion on “assessing the achievements of the Global Fund with regard to HIV/AIDS, Malaria & TB in Africa” stating that in Africa the effectiveness of the Global Fund needs to be redefined to meet the changing times of development, the use and introduction of new technologies, and new methods and research for combating the three diseases. He adds that many HIV/AIDS initiatives have been set up and that their fragmentation does not add up to the current times of networking; and that the use of ICTs can facilitate in helping in the acceleration against the fight of HIV/AIDS, Malaria & TB in Africa and other poor countries.     In response to Kiapi K. Frederick from Uganda post, the Global Fund Secretariat encouraged Kiapi K. Frederick to contact the implementers in the country to give them his suggestions on new technologies. He was also encouraged to contact WHO and UNAIDS offices that facilitate information on how new technologies can be used in programs. Read the full post.
     

     

    Thamer Kadum Yousif Al Hilfy opened the discussion on “Women's perspectives regarding Tuberculosis in Iraq explaining that Iraq is one of the countries in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region with the highest tuberculosis (TB) burden and that their goal is to contribute to the prevention of the disease occurrence and transmission. He points that the gender ratio is 2:1 and that female TB patients have low chance to access TB services than male due to many social constraints. Stigma is still an issue so health education efforts should be spent to change the attitude of the community and to encourage women with suspicious symptoms to attend the health clinics for further investigations. Civil society should take the lead in coordinating all the efforts toward achieving this target. Read the full post.

    In response to Thamer Kadum Yousif Al Hilfy from Iraq post, Mahfuza Rifat from Bangladesh congratulated his opinion regarding gender and shared her views on the situation in Bangladesh. She states that the approach to involve female in health seeking and to reduce stigma is important. She also says that apart from ratio and the number of additional female cases, case holding and treatment completion should be monitored. Read the full post.
