I think the Private sector could also work with the Global fund in identifying latest technologies to use in project implementation, and in its day –to day administration in order to streamline working processes and assist in workload management. The Global fund, being a leading financing mechanism and a public private partnership should find ways to attract private sector entities as it has in such a short time with leading public sector organizations and governments.
Its efforts to woo the private sector should be international and even inside developing countries. A fair number of private sector companies operating in developing countries are either becoming or have been billion dollar companies. Global stock markets trade tens of billions or more each day. More private sector efforts will in a very short time create awareness, raise funds and ensure the Global fund’s sustainability. Alongside the Gates and other foundations, it should now target leading private sector companies that are known to donate high percentages of their incomes like Coca Cola, international and in-country commercial banks, Bristol Myers Squibb, Nationwide, Target, Safeway, Boeing, Best Buy, Caterpillar, Wal-Mart stores, Aetna, mobile telecommunications companies, mining companies, breweries, etc. and develop mutually beneficial products, programmes and investments. It should encourage credible NGOs to be its advocates inside developing countries, in negotiating with the private sector.
