    working together for health

    medigist - May 03, 2006

    OPEN LETTER

    HON. MANMOHAN SINGH
    Prime minister of India
    Dr.A.RAMDOSS
    Minister for Health &Family Welfare

    WORKING TOGETHER FOR HEALTH

I have read with interest your remarks made on private sector healthcare, while launching the public health foundation of India and communicated to my readers. WHO echoes your call for public-private partnerships to improve health. World Health Organization has set the theme for 2006-07, Working together for health.
For the last two years PhaRMeD Trade News with missionary zeal is working to build capacity and enhance the functional competency of retail chemists. We are indebted to M/S Ranbaxy for supporting one year to carry out our mission.
Retail chemists in India function under tremendous pressure. With more than 3 lakh pharma brands testing the brain, without a computer and a patient who does not wait for two minutes to get his prescription filled. Inspite of this, retail chemists manage to ensure to provide the right product to the right patient at the right time day in & out.
The need to strengthen Basic health systems is urgent and important. We have more than 5 lakh pharmacies in India. It is true that many pharmacies run without the presence of a qualified pharmacist. As long as they are allowed to run by the government, we should deem a pharmacist is present. Our government spends a minimum of a million rupees in the process of making a M.B.B.S Doctor.Inspite of this a good percentage of doctors go out of India for greener pastures and the remaining do not wish to work in rural areas. At the same time our investment on retail chemist is zero.
Most of the people in this country see the retail chemist as a petty trader, not having vision beyond current day profit. If properly guided and motivated we can transform
The retail chemists to render better community service. Let us recognize the 5-lakh retail chemists serve more than 4 million citizens everyday. We need to recognize the immense social good that can be achieved by building capacity in retail chemists. The retail chemist can a play a very important role in the following areas.
1.InHealthcare delivery.2.As Basic healthcare resource. 3.AsPublic health resource.4 In Delivery of healthcare communications to public.5 In Prevention of AIDS/TB/Malaria.

Pharmed Trade News is in position to reach 2 lakh retail chemists every fortnight. To continue our mission we need the government support. We request your personal initiative in this regard. We request you to grant Rs 10 Per month per retail chemist education.
    Yours faithfully
