    In India there is a movement toward community empowerment programmes focused on HIV prevention. Swasti (www.swasti.org), a Bangalore, (india) based health resource centre has initiated a programme for HIV prevention among street based sex worker. We work with close to 15000 street based sex worker. Swasti is implementing this programme in collaboration with Swati Mahila Sangha, a sex worker collective. Through this partnership, the programme is trying to achieve synergistic relationship leading to evolving a programme in which community would lead and control all the process within the project. Some of the strategies being employed in this programme are sexual heatlh activities through STI management services and information, condom programme, enabling environment, peer education, community dialogue, positive prevention, shadow leadership, tipping point, livelihood programmes, deaddiction programme.

    dear team members

    i am working in the field of overall healthcare facility. i would expect that HIV/AIDS is the very dangarerly spearding in india. so many type of factor which are the causes of spreading hIV/AIDS. mostly this disease is spreading from the sex workers, dance bar, companies,large hotels,restarunt,and unawareness in the tribal people.

    but firstly we should provide the healthcare IPD based facility to the HIV/AIDS people. global should apply for the establishment of IPD based hospital. this hospital can doing work through mobile service in the infected area. most of the organization is working in this field on the community aware basis but as per my expectation this not actual way to controll on the HIV/AIDS.

    global fund firstly apply for the establishment of hospital and HIV/AIDS treatment center. if global fund spent on the awareness program the result of it will bad for the people.so my think global fund mostly apply for the HIV/AIDS establish the HIV/AIDS treatment IPD based hopsital.

    Dear All,

    In December 2007, Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN) started HIV & Sexual Reproductive Health toll-free 1660-01-45-000 Hotline/telecounseling services with the support of 2nd round Global Fund through UNDP (United Nation Development Programme).
     
    This Hotline/telecounseling service is the only one in the entire state operating with a 7 counselors on VCT & Hotline counseling, which provides services 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for callers from the general population from 75 districts.
     
    Data analyzed have already revealed that each day there are approximately 15-20 calls from housewives, doctors, driver, politician, factory worker, FM station, shopkeeper, service provider, teacher, students etc and a total 1,940 calls received Decemeber 2007 - March 2008  including 1,503 male and 437 female. 
     
    Toll-free Hotline/telecounseling services have proved to be akey component of HIV intervention especially with the general population. Hotline/telecounseling facility will ensure privacy and confidentiality.

    A large portion of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa (43%) consists of youth under the age of 15 and approximately half of all new HIV infections in the world are found in young people aged 15-24. Most youth, especially very young adolescents (youth aged 10-14), have not been the target of many reproductive health, gender, and HIV and AIDS programs and this is of concern because they are at higher risk. Some initiatives such as the African Youth Aliance project and other country specific project have include very young adolescents in their programs and projects, but there has rarely been a focus on creating and providing specific information to address the actual needs of this age group because they see youth as a homogenous population. 

    A greater focus on creating specific adolescent sexual reproductive health programming for very young adolescents, that includes a focus on gender, could have a large impact on providing youth with the tools to protect themselves later in life and have an effect on how gender is perceived by both men and women.

    HIV - The social evil

    HIV is called as a social evil. But according to me, its just a state of a person in his life. ofcourse, some people are getting it through their uncontrolled life. There is no descretion between Men or Women. Even in this era the family life is spoiling just because of the name of this social evil. Each of the couples are suspecting others. Almost all the countries of the world practicing extra marital relationships. The more important problem is pre marital relationships.

    Once i talked with a mother fo 12 year old girl. That mother was crying infront of me and she was telling, before two three weeks, she caught her daughter with condoms inside her pocket. Ofcourse the media is a reason fo the education. But whether we are giving proper eduaction. Or we are giving unwated popularity? There we have to have the concentration. The only way to prevent HIV transmission is through education. As so many people told the education is very important. But always there is a word. Think differently. Now where we are giving education? to the olders. whether it will be easy to teach matuared one. they will have some belives. where the education is needed.
     
    According to me, education should be given to the students. From at least 8th standared we have to give proper education regarding the sexual life and its importance in life. We have to make them aware about the problems if we misutilise these things. The youth should be fully aware about this social evil. Today in most all the countries are failed in giving the awareness. May be Government is trying to give a part of the education. But it won't reach the prons and corns. There i'm expecting Global funds help. Global fund has to take initiative to give thw awareness. Focus on the youth, they will be the assest of the country. May be my discussion cross the limits. If its so please forgive.

    What are the most effective health and social interventions that link HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health? Which ones should be supported by the Global Fund and which ones should not?

    Your answer could include but does not have to be limited to activities that address:

    • restrictions in access, demand and delivery of health services
    • weaknesses and constraints in disease programs and health systems
    Sexual and reproductive health care represents an opportunity to expand HIV prevention and care for women. Similarly, services provided within HIV programs provide a potential platform for sexual and reproductive health care, such as prevention of sexually transmitted infections and family planning.
