The new Global Fund website

 New Global Fund website
We are launching today a newly designed Global Fund website, the third version since the creation of the Global Fund almost seven years ago.

Here are some of the most noticeable changes you can experience...

  • One integrated online platform serving both as a main communication channel for the Global Fund (TheGlobalFund.org) and as a meeting and exchange place for all people involved in the global fight against AIDS, TB and malaria (MyGlobalFund.org). Each channel is now only one click away from the other through the tab system on top of the page.

  • A simplified navigation menu with 5 top navigation menu items (down from 8) and a menu list that stays open on the section you are visiting, making it easier to find your way around the site and to contextualize your navigation experience

  • A new homepage with a simpler and clearer design that focuses on our concrete results (“Access to Life” and the “Saving Lives” section) for a wider and less technical audience.

  • A fully scalable design ready for a series of improvements to the Global Fund online platform to be rolled out in 2009.

And for the techies among us, here is what is "hidden under the hood"
  • A much lighter website: on average, pages are now at least half the size they were, which should speed up downloading times tremendously in slow Internet environments.

  • A centralized navigation engine: this makes the updating and editing of the multilingual navigation menu a simple one-step process.

  • A modular site structure: the same content (files, pages and other functionalities) can now be displayed in different sections of the site to facilitate navigation.

  • Better technical support for non-Latin languages: visitors of the Chinese, Arabic and Russian websites should have the same search and navigation experience as French, Spanish and English speakers, without the occasional technical problems they experienced before.
All of those changes were necessary to pave the way for our next big projects for 2009 which I will soon introduce on this blog.

In the coming weeks, we will invite you to provide detailed feedback on the new site through an online survey. In the meantime, please visit the newly created Website Suggestion Box to share your comments, questions and suggestions regarding the new site.

Enjoy your visit on TheGlobalFund.org!

It was good to knock down the walls and try the "open-space" design, I can really breath a completely different air.

Very well done!

Subject: About the 'myglobalfund' forums, please forward as indicated below.

To Mr. Alistair Green, and others.

I have been trying for weeks to make some postings to the forum. At times, the forum will not allow me access, claiming that my password is incorrect.  Then after I changed my password, I can log on just once, before I again receive the same message, and have to re-submit for a new password and follow all of the steps involved, as if I had forgotten my password, even though it is only one hour since I last logged on, and I have Not forgotten my password.

And,  finally, the website is very complex, and not user-friendly at all, in my opinion.   Even when finally logged on I have not been successful, as far as I can tell,  in sending any postings.   I can see the postings made by others, who obviously have been successful at figuring out what to do to send a post. (I successfully sent some postings a very long time ago…but have not posted in perhaps  6-10 months, or longer, and I  think the site may have changed since then), but  I cannot seem to figure out how to send my own posts, such as the document below.   The fact that many people have succeeded in posting makes it clear that they have been able to figure out how to work within the framework of the website. But I am (normally) pretty sophisticated in the use of e-mail and internet, and I wonder if there are others from developing countries, who have just finally given up in their attempts, as I have,  and you would not even be aware of it.

Also on your biography page, and those of the other moderators, there is no simple way to communicate with you  to express these concerns.  For this reason I am hoping that one of the above recipients will forward these comments to you, and to the other moderators.. You list a messenger address (I do not use messenger) and you list a skype address, but I am not currently using skype.   But there is no simple, regular e-mail address, whereby I could have expressed these concerns to you in a, simple normal   e-mail during these past few weeks. I tried the messenger address, which appears to be an e-mail address, but it doesn’t work.

Sincerely,

Richard Stern

Dear Richard,

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you have experienced difficulty in using MyGlobalFund. Our support team is there to help you with any problems you might have. There is an email for support that you will find at the bottom of the messages you receive each week from the facilitation team, and you can always post questions on the Technical Support forum.

To avoid spam, our email addresses do not appear on the site, but you can contact me by going to my profile and at the bottom of the page, on the right-hand side you will see a box called “Connect with me”. Click on the links Send me an email or Start a private discussion.

Our team has been working hard to make MyGlobalFund as easy as possible to use. We have tried to balance the wide range of technical features available on a community-driven site, with the user-friendly aspect. We are continually improving MyGlobalFund, and we appreciate any feed back you may have.

In order to help respond to some of the questions members may have when using the site, we have prepared a number of tutorials. For example:

How to recover your password

How to change your password

How to participate in a forum

We have also prepared a series of FAQs that will answer most of your questions.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Best regards,

Alastair
