The new Global Fund website |
|
Here are some of the most noticeable changes you can experience...
- One integrated online platform serving both as a main communication channel for the Global Fund (TheGlobalFund.org) and as a meeting and exchange place for all people involved in the global fight against AIDS, TB and malaria (MyGlobalFund.org). Each channel is now only one click away from the other through the tab system on top of the page.
- A simplified navigation menu with 5 top navigation menu items (down from 8) and a menu list that stays open on the section you are visiting, making it easier to find your way around the site and to contextualize your navigation experience
- A new homepage with a simpler and clearer design that focuses on our concrete results (“Access to Life” and the “Saving Lives” section) for a wider and less technical audience.
- A fully scalable design ready for a series of improvements to the Global Fund online platform to be rolled out in 2009.
And for the techies among us, here is what is "hidden under the hood"…
- A much lighter website: on average, pages are now at least half the size they were, which should speed up downloading times tremendously in slow Internet environments.
- A centralized navigation engine: this makes the updating and editing of the multilingual navigation menu a simple one-step process.
- A modular site structure: the same content (files, pages and other functionalities) can now be displayed in different sections of the site to facilitate navigation.
- Better technical support for non-Latin languages: visitors of the Chinese, Arabic and Russian websites should have the same search and navigation experience as French, Spanish and English speakers, without the occasional technical problems they experienced before.
All of those changes were necessary to pave the way for our next big projects for 2009 which I will soon introduce on this blog.
